Resident Fellow Application Guidelines
ELIGIBILITY Residencies are awarded competitively, at no cost,
to national and international creative artists, age 25 or over, who exhibit
professional standing in their field. Both mature and emerging artists of promise
are welcome to apply. Residents have included writers, composers & musicians, playwrights and actors, visual artists, interdisciplinary artists,
collaborative teams, curators and arts administrators pursuing creative
projects.
Resident Fellows are provided
space to live and work. Edenfred does not provide food, transportation or a
stipend. Artists who need additional funding for
travel, materials, supplies, food and/or at-home expenses, should apply to other
sources for this support.
APPLICATION DEADLINES: Annual Postmark deadlines for completed applications are:
September
1 for residencies between February 1 and June 30.
January 1 for residencies between July 1 and early
December.
Applications and supporting materials must be postmarked by the
application deadline. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. All
applications must be submitted by regular mail. The summer residency period has
more applicants than any other season; please consider fall or winter if your
schedule permits. The Residency Program is closed mid-December through
January.
APPLICATION FEE: A
nonrefundable processing fee of $25 (US) is required with each application. There are no fees charged
for a residency.
NOTIFICATION: You
will be notified of the panelŐs decision approximately six to eight weeks after
the deadline for your application period. While every effort is made to accommodate
applicant's scheduling requests, we are not always able to grant first choices.
Please indicate flexibility and restrictions on your application.
REFERENCES: Each applicant is responsible for
requesting three letters of reference from qualified individuals who are
familiar with his or her work. References should be sent under separate cover.
Those writing letters of reference for you should identify their professional
affiliation, provide current information relevant to your application and speak to your ability to positively contribute to a collegial environment. References are confidential and will be kept on
file for five years. Applications that do not have letters of reference on file
will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.
REAPPLICATION: Artists who have applied in the past
must submit new and complete applications, including recent work samples.
Previous residents who are reapplying must also submit complete applications
including recent work samples. Alumni must wait three seasons before reapplying
for a return residency.
COLLABORATION: If applying as a collaborative team, both or all
artists need to submit separate applications along with a joint project
proposal. Your work samples may be individual or previous
collaborations. Please indicate in the proposal what requirements you have for
workspace.
GUESTS: Accommodations are limited to
selected individual residents only. Any arrangements for visits by friends or
family who are in the area must be made with the Executive Director.
PETS: No pets are allowed.
SMOKING: Edenfred is a completely smoke-free
environment. No smoking is allowed
in the house or on the entire property.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS: Edenfred recognizes that artists
applying from other countries may have special requirements to make their
residency successful. If you are applying internationally, please communicate
any additional information or questions to us so that we may address your
circumstance individually.
NONDISCRIMINATION: Edenfred encourages and welcomes the participation
of artists from all backgrounds and does not discriminate with regard to race,
sex, sexual orientation, disabilities, religion, marital status, or nation of
origin in its admission policies.
Wheelchair
ACCESSIBILITY: Edenfred is not wheelchair accessible. Built in 1916,
the house does not have an elevator and all accommodations for residents are on
the second floor, accessible only by stairs.
