EdenfredŐs Resident Fellows
Program is designed as a retreat experience to pursue personal creative
opportunities while sharing collegial interaction with a small group of
artists. Edenfred is dedicated to the development of the arts and culture and
is especially interested in encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue. The house
is particularly well-suited to collaborative teams.
Resident fellows are offered
space to live and work. There is
no charge for a residency. Edenfred does not provide food, transportation or a
stipend. Residencies may vary from 2 to 8 weeks, and are scheduled throughout
the year, from February 1 through December 15. While there are no formal
expectations to present completed work at the end of a residency, a brief
project proposal or outline of intent is required as part of the application.
To encourage the development of culture in the Madison and
regional community, residents are required to have some public interface during
their stay. This may take the form of a reading, lecture, workshop, recital,
master class, critique group, etc. and may take place at Edenfred or in the
community. The nature of the activity derives from the artistŐs interests and
is planned in consultation with the Executive Director prior to a residence.
Facilities:
Accommodations:
Edenfred has four guest suites for resident fellows. Each has a private bath,
small desk and cable television; all are on the second floor (no elevator).
Linens are changed weekly; house is cleaned biweekly. Residents have access to
laundry facilities and cleaning supplies as needed.
Work space: Edenfred
is a 1916 mansion and does not have specialized work spaces for different
disciplines; no dance studio, no private music room, no video room, etc. Although we do have a visual art
studio, we do not have specialized equipment for any discipline; no printmaking
presses, sculpture tools, film/video editing, video recording, etc. Artists are responsible to provide the
necessary tools and materials for their creative endeavors. Edenfred, while
sturdily constructed, is not sound-proof between rooms and floors.
While many residents choose to work in their guest suites, residents are
encouraged to work throughout the house and property.
Music: A grand piano is available in the living room;
there is no private sound-proof music studio.
Visual Art: A visual art studio has been created in the
basement with direct access from the outside as well as internal access. It has
two south-facing windows in addition to color-corrected fluorescent lighting.
Water is available in an adjoining room. Ceiling height is 7 feet with some
pipes lower. Artists are required to provide their own materials; no toxic
materials are allowed.
Telecommunications:
Edenfred is networked for wireless internet access throughout. Personal cell
phones are highly recommended, although each guest suite has a telephone (all
rooms share the same line, no messaging service).
Kitchen & Meals:
Edenfred provides one group dinner per week to encourage resident dialogue and
camaraderie. Resident fellows are provided with shelf and refrigerator space in
a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen and are responsible for their own food,
cooking and clean up.
Other Amenities: The
living room houses a grand piano, a fireplace, and an entertainment center with
television, dvd, and sound system. The Wisconsin State Journal
and the New York Times are delivered
daily.
